Artist Statement – Winter’s Moon

“Winter’s Moon” reflects a vision drawn from the place I once called home along the shores of Georgian Bay, looking out across the water toward Giant’s Tomb Island. In the deep stillness of a winter night, the bay becomes both silent and alive—ice forming, water resting, and moonlight settling over every surface like breath held in the cold.

The pines rise in the foreground as windswept figures, shaped by the relentless force of the Bay’s weather. Their bending forms speak to memory, endurance, and the powerful winds that carve this landscape through every season. Yet the scene remains quiet, almost suspended, the world softened by snow and illuminated by the winter moon.

This painting is an homage to that place: to its mystery, to the stories embedded in its shoreline, and to the relationship between fierce elements and peaceful night. It is a portrait of Georgian Bay in winter—still, icy, and full of spirit.
